Large, bold foliage with beetroot magenta flowers

Hebe speciosa is a low growing hebe that is endemic to North and South Islands and inhabits coastal areas between the Marlborough Sounds and the far north of the North Island. Its natural habitat includes coastal cliffs and headlands, in low windswept scrub and flaxland. The shrub bears pairs of oval dark green glossy leathery leaves and spikes of magenta flowers that can occur throughout the year. Sprawling shape that can reach a height of 2m and spread of 3m.

In terms of planting Hebe speciosa is cold sensitive so it thrives in an open, sunny and exposed situation. Prefers a free draining soil. This hebe is one of the most common for cultivating because of its bright coloured flowers that appear throughout the year- ideal for bringing colour to any coastal garden.
