This fern belongs to the Aspleniaceae family and thrives in many conditions from shade to partial sunlight. It is also suitable and popular as an indoor plant, including areas with low light. The versatile fern has dark green arching fronds which can grow up to 1 metre. Māori referred to the fern as pikopiko and would often harvest and use the fronds as vegetables.
