This native is a creeping, tufted perennial herb which is endemic to both the North and South Island (coastal to subalpine). It is usually found in open areas on gravel, sand or rock outcrops.

Leptinella pusilla forms a tight ground cover with its small fern-like leaves which range in colour from purple-grey to bronze.

It has a spread of around 75cm wide with a maximum height of 10cm.

During August to November it produces mini button shaped, yellow flowers.
