Small herbaceous ground cover
Dichondra repens is a small herbaceous native plant with a creeping habit, forming a dense mat. It has kidney shaped leaves ranging from 0.5-2cm in diameter. Throughout summer (September - February) this plant produces tiny yellow-green flowers followed by a hairy fruit.
Can be used as a groundcover in the garden but also as an ornamental lawn substitute.
The plant grows roots from it nodules and spreads up to 1m wide with a maximum height of 5cm.
It grows in a variety of conditions from damp, to well drained and very dry sites as well as in full sun and partial shade.
