Coprosma lucida is a tall shrub or tree up to 3 m tall with green stems and glossy green pairs of leaves and reddish brown bark. Its leaves are large -12-17cm long, oval, tapering to leaf stem and tip, main vein pale and causing a ridge on the upper and lower surface of leaf. It has green stout branches and branchlets which become brown and woody with age.
Birds are attracted to the Red/ Orange fruits from January to June. Bees to its flowers.
It is common throughout New Zealand in shrubland, forest, especially margins of the forest, lowland to upper montane.
Use as a low shelter or hedge, Evergreen and very hardy.
