Glossy shrub with strong smelling flowers

This shade-loving woody shrub has large glossy leaves (up or 5cm wide and 15cm long), is much branched and grows up to a height of 5m. Its tubular shaped, drooping flowers which appear from late winter to early summer, vary in colour - between dark red/ pink/ cream and white and have a notable strong, pleasant perfume.
Alseuosmia macrophylla is endemic to the North Island (though absent from the central volcanic plateau) as well as the North-West Nelson region of the South Island.
