Very similar to P.arboreus with larger leaves. Berries are borne in spring and are attractive to birds.
Attractive small tree with large, distinctive shiny, glossy, large broad foliage on red stalks. Endemic to northern part of the North Island. Flowers from September through to November and has fleshy, purple fruits from October to February.
The leaves have a drooping appearance and is a superb shrub for the garden and is suitable for growing in coastal locations.
Best suited for sites in full sun or part shade where soils are fertile, moist but free-draining. Very fast growing.
