Great ground cover for harsh sites forming a tight low-lying mat.

Muehlenbeckia axillaris is a low growing, evergreen shrub that is native to New Zealand and Tasmania, New South Wales and Victoria in Australia. In New Zealand it is present on Mt Egmont/ Mt Taranaki mostly growing on rocky sites.

The shrub forms a wiry mat with thin brown stems and small round leaves. In summer Muehlenbeckia axillaris flowers prolifically producing masses of small cream coloured flowers. The shrub will sprawl up to 1m in diameter and does best in full sun. Very tolerant of hot and dry conditions. More restrained in its growth compared to m. complexia. Looks great in rock gardens or garden edges.
