Libertia peregrinans is a rhizome spreading plant that is endemic to New Zealand. Is distributed throughout the South Island and can be distributed as far North as Piha. The iris plant also referred to as mikoikoi and will naturally grow in coastal to lowland areas with sand, peaty or pumileous soils. The mikoikoi has attractive dark orange sword like foliage that can reach a height of up to 0.5m metres. Small white flowers appear in October through to January. The Libertia peregrinans is tolerant of coastal and dry conditions but also shady conditions.
