Shade loving plant with attractive bell-shaped flowers
Jovellana sinclairii is a perennial native calceolaria that grows in central and eastern edges of the North Island. Distributed near Hicks Bay Southwards the plant grows in shaded, coastal, lower montane steam sides, cliff edges and damp sparsely vegetated forest floor. Jovellana sinclairii is an interesting New Zealand native which looks more like an english woodland plant because of its light green foliage with soft serrated edges and beautiful white bell-shaped flowers with purple spots on the inside. The flowers appear in late spring to mid summer.
This native perennial can reach a height if up to 0.5m and will do best in a sheltered position with moist soils. To keep the compact shape prune in spring.
